5 Fitness Trends To Watch For in 2017
While there will always be new fitness trends coming and going, the most important thing to keep in mind is the need for motivation. You may be happy with your current fitness routine but take a minute to ask yourself if you’re truly hitting your fitness goals. If not, maybe it’s time to mix things up a bit. This week we weigh in on the 5 hottest fitness trends that will have you sweating it out in 2017!
Boxing studios are popping up everywhere, a good indication of its rise in popularity. This is certainly not just a guys sport anymore, no way. Boxing is a great weight-loss workout helping men and women shed pounds with an insane combination of cardio, agility and strength training. It’s also a fantastic anxiety and stress reliever which is why its popularity is spreading like wildfire.
2. Bodyweight Training
Bodyweight training is another one of the buzz-worthy fitness trends for 2017. Some even say it is more beneficial than using traditional weight machines. Why? It’s argued that weight machines narrow the range of motion that is targeted, meaning only specific muscle groups are targeted at once. Bodyweight training expands the areas allowing you to strengthen larger groups of muscles effectively. It’s very convenient too. All you need is some space to move around a bit. It can definitely be a good trend to pick up if you prefer to work out in the privacy of your own home but make sure you set goals to keep the motivation going!
3. Apps and Streaming Classes
Tired of planning your workouts days in advance in order to secure a spot in class? If you’re okay with working out ‘outside’ of your usual class or studio, consider apps or streaming classes. Studios across the country are becoming more accessible by offering more ways for you to get your sweat on. Is it a worthy trend to try? We vote yes! The NYC based cardio dance class Dancebody recently launched an on-demand service that offers accessibility when you’re lacking location. Yogaglo offers on-demand yoga from Yin to Ashtanga to meditation from a wide variety of our favorite yogis. So if you’re needing more flexibility with your workout routines, 2017 holds a promising future for expanding those possibilities.
4. Wearable Fitness Tech
Wearable fitness technology really hit hard in 2016. It comes as no surprise that it’s a strong leader in 2017 as well. Fitness trackers like Jawbone, Fitbit and Misfit (to name a few) are all the rage. So, is it a worthy trend to try? We vote yes. Wearable fitness tech has come a long way from where it started. Originally, most wearable tech was only capable of tracking the amount of steps that you are taking. Now, features and capabilities have expanded which makes choosing a band much more personal based on your wants and needs. Also, the material used has really improved from cheap plastic-like material to more durable and stylish options. If you have yet to jump on the wearable tech trend, give it a try and let us know what you think!
5. High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)
High-intensity interval training is any workout that has intense bursts of activity alternated by periods of low activity or even complete rest. An example work out could be running as fast as you can for one minute followed by two minutes of walking = three minutes for each interval for a total of 15 minutes. HIIT carries some excellent benefits from improving your heart health, to increasing your metabolism to burning fat instead of muscle. No equipment is required with HIIT classes so it can be done virtually anywhere. HIIT is a very intense workout that will certainly offer up a challenge so if a challenge is what you’re looking for this year, this trend is for you!
It’s a new year so why not set a goal for yourself to try out at least ONE of these fitness trends. Maybe you’ll love it and maybe you won’t but you won’t know unless you try!
As always, keeping you happy, healthy and fit is our #1 goal.
